Golang Job Details

Hej! We’re expanding our Digital Hub and I’m looking for engineers to join our new Digital Food Experience area.

Our teams are growing and looking for new engineers looking into new challenges to create a better everyday life for the many people where Food is an integral part of how we can achieve that goal.

At IKEA, you’re welcome no matter where you come from, what you believe, and what you look like. We don’t even care how you have furnished your home. We’re interested in you simply because you’re you. Our different views, backgrounds, and personalities make us better understand our customers, give us more fun at work and spark more and better ideas. Perhaps your unique take on something could lead to a great idea that creates a better everyday life for the many people.

IKEA FOOD

In-store restaurants, coffee-corners, bistros or Swedish markets are part of the Ikea food journey driving the food services to one of the most recognized Ikea experiences engaging thousands of customers around the world.

We have the challenge to empower and innovate the digital experience for the many people - internal and external users – making their everyday life better thanks to technology. Among others, you will work on software solutions to:

  • Create new online experiences
  • Boost the in-store journey
  • Improve logistic efficiency
  • Have efficient food services operations
  • Reduce waste, contributing to a sustainable planet

We have a wide focus in more than 400 stores. Our environment is completely international where English is the main language having digital hubs spread across the world. You will have colleagues in many cities like Amsterdam, Malmö or Philadelphia.

OUR LANDSCAPE

We don’t have a closed technical stack because we like to favour the use of the most modern tools and languages when picking the most appropriate tool for the job. Currently we are primarily using:

  • Cloud infrastructure (mainly GCP), handled with Terraform to remain provider agnostic.
  • TypeScript, Java, Python, Golang.
  • React, Vue.js

We adapt our stack to the best suitable solution. All our developments focus on high quality standards. We love to follow principles like CI/CD, monitoring and testing automation. Also, we love to apply trending approaches like event driven systems, API firsts, or hexagonal architecture.

We believe in cross-functional devops teams so your team and yourself as a team member will be responsible for of all technical aspects of the products during its lifetime; including design, development, deployment, evolution and maintenance.

ABOUT YOU

As a hands-on Software Engineer, you will consistently have opportunities to work closely with other Software Engineers as part of an agile team. We expect you to:

  • Have a strong technical background that allows you to contribute shaping the technical direction of your team, while consistently delivering production-ready code.
  • Know how to balance technical best practices and pragmatism.
  • Be able to design, deliver and maintain working software.
  • Have an agile mindset focusing on the end-user in an iteratively and incremental manner.
  • Be proactive and responsible of your team solutions.

ABOUT THIS WORK AREA

Food Digital is a relatively new area, with most still to be done. You’ll be joining a product squad to work in an agile environment. While part of a huge ecosystem, in Food Digital we own our solutions. That means that the team is responsible for the whole journey of the product; from design, picking the most suitable technology, to implementing an appropriate observability system. You’ll be working closely with product as one team, and be part of an amazing community of engineers that all share a quality driven mentality. You will also have ownership over your career plan, deciding in which direction you want to grow. Your manager will support and advice in your journey, and all engineers have access to any learning platform necessary (like Pluralsight).

The IKEA culture and values are very much a part of our business and day to day work life. For you to thrive and grow with IKEA it’s important for us that you share our values! You can read more regarding those and life at IKEA on our website www.ikea.com or just watch this movie: https://vimeo.com/290339889.
Most things remain to be done. And that’s why we want you to help us.

Studies show that members of underrepresented communities don’t apply for jobs unless they’re 100% “qualified”. If this is part of the reason you hesitate to apply, we like you to reconsider and give it a chance. Maybe your profile fits our needs much better than you think. We look forward to receiving your application. (From: “Why Women Don’t Apply for Jobs Unless They’re 100% Qualified” by Tara Sophia Mohr, August 2014”)
